American Idol - Anybody Remember The Gong Show?

Today, my DH and I were talking about Kelly Clarkson and her awards at the Grammy's and laughing at some of the recent whacky American Idol tryout personalities. It occurred to us that we'd seen this before.

Have you ever seen someone booed and chased off the stage at the Apollo Theater? Do YOU remember The Gong Show?

The Gong Show, televised from 1976 to 1980, was a spoof on amateur talent shows, featuring some REALLY BAD acts. There were always one or two people who really had talent, and the winner earned the grand prize of $516.32.
"But generally it was the epitome of bad TV and a great example of what could actually pass for entertainment at the time."
Hey, is that quote about The Gong Show (1976), or the American Idol Tryouts (2006)????

Haha well I'm a big idol fan. Should I admit that? Yeah, the gong show was classic and this is probably how it goes for the new generation. Star Search too. Nothing's new

Well, Sketchee, we watch the show faithfully, too. And when it gets down to the top 10, I dial like crazy, trying to get some votes in for my favorites.

All that's missing is the Unknown Comic ... oh wait ... is that Seacrest?

The unknown comic had more talent than Seacrest. I used to love watching Gong Show reruns on USA when I was little. Greatest game show ever, well next to MTV's Remote Control

Old shows never die - they just go into reruns! Kevin, Seacrest says "Ouch!",LOL.
