It's hard to believe that my Daddy could possibly be that old. He still lives by himself (with a lot of help from us, but still), and his mind is still sharp, which makes his age even the more amazing. Add to that the fact that he's been legally blind for 40 years, and you can see why I'm particularly proud to be able to brag about him.
It's fun getting him to talk about his Good Old Days. I wish I had written all his stories down over the years, but I've only come to value such things as I have gotten a little age myself.
Just think of the things that have happened in his lifetime, and the inventions that we take for granted today that didn't even exist when he was little. Will things change as much in our lifetime as they have changed in his?

Wow! That is absolutely amazing! You must be very proud. I can just imagine the wonderful stories you have the pleasure of hearing.
A very Happy Birthday to your dad. I am humbled.
All the Best,
Raida
Thank you, Raida, for the kind birthday wishes. I've never tried to explain to him what a blog is or how everyone can read and write on them. I've tried to explain email to him before, but no luck. We take so much for granted.
He actually worked with computers way back when the data was entered with punch cards, but that doesn't help him to conceptualize today's Internet.
Happy Birthday to your dad!
Thanks, Anji! Interesting blogs you have.
What a lovely post about your dad. It was such an amazing century to have lived through and I'm sure your dad has some amazing memories and stories to share. Perhaps you could interview him on a tape recorder or a video camera. It would be wonderful to have his life documented as part of your family history for future generations. Happy Birthday to your dad.
Thank you, Seawave, for your kind words. I've never been able to get him to tell these stories in any kind of organized way. Mostly I find out things at mealtime, at the kitchen table. It's a lot easier to talk with him about his early life than it is current events, and a WHOLE lot more interesting!
And yes, I intend to use his stories as fuel for posts on this blog!
Hope he has a happy birthday!
Thanks, Jason. We took him out for a breakfast buffet this morning, just to do something completely different for his birthday.
One of his neighbor's funeral is today, and my DH will be an honorary pall bearer, so we couldn't celebrate later in the day. It's a shame he had to be reminded on such a happy day of how close to death we all are.
That is so cool that he still has his wits. I would definitly set up a video camera at dinner time, and get some great memories to share.....Happy Born Day to your Dad!
Hmmm Hadn't thought about video taping our conversations. Don't know that he'd let me, but it's a good idea and worth trying. Thanks for the "Born Day" wishes, Chef. Is that a British expression, or just a Tina Marie expression?
