I am trying to find out some information on a set of collector glasses. They are in the original box. On the box it has printed Talk of the Town. There are 8 glasses, each one having different sayings on them. I was told they were from the 1942 movie, starring Cary Grant.
But the sayings on the glasses do not make any sense to me, as coming from a movie. Such as one glass has on it, Ladies over 45 please remove your hats.
Another has, Those who have seen the entire show please pass out so others may do so.
I would really like any information you could help me with.

The sayings do sound like they belong with old time movies to me, particularly about the hats. Wearing fancy wide brimmed hats was quite the rage during the silent movie era, and it carried over for awhile into the talkies. It was very common for a sign to be flashed on the screen, asking the ladies to remove their hats. I guess the humor comes from the "over 45" reference. Both of the sayings that Roy quoted are humorous, so I'm assuming the other 6 sayings are, too(turned out to be a wrong assumption).
Well, he's sent me pictures of the glasses. Now I understand his confusion. While some of them are definitely movie related, others are puzzling. And not all of them have a humorous tone.

But I was not able to find any information about this set of glasses anywhere on the net. I probably just didn't think of the right set of search terms. So if any of you recognize these glasses, or have better luck searching than I did, please comment, so Roy can learn more about his vintage set of glasses. If you have a guess as to their value, he'd be interested in your opinion, too.

It's an interesting quest, and if anyone does come up with some information, I think we'll all enjoy learning about them, Chana.
I've asked him to send me pictures if he can, and I sure hope he can. He's made me very curious.

I have a movie buff friend, Chana, who's taken a look at the pics. He doesn't think they have anything to do with any specific movie, but are more generic to the era.
Doing research on such items is just like being on that PBS show, the History Detectives!!

I forget you’re in Canada. The History Detectives is a public television show, done by the same people who do the Antiques Road Show.
They do the research of some vintage or antique piece, and sometimes they find out the object is a fake, and sometimes it turns out to be the real thing. We always enjoy it, and the Antiques Road Show, too.
They make perfect sense to me--how old are you? They are information at or over exits in movie theaters and other public places, info on when the offerings change, and slides on the screens at movie theaters. Old films had more than one reel, and the film operator had to stop the movie and change them. The slide appeared on the screen so people wouldn't think the film was broken, which also happened.
The one that puzzled me was "Good night, Call again." I don't see the connection. And there's another one where I couldn't see the saying on the glass. All I can see is a girl in what appears to be a Polynesian dress.
As for age, Norma, I was born in '43. I do remember the reels being changed, and I do remember films breaking, too.
