Children stayed children longer when I was young.
I know this, because I taught school for 29 years. The first few years were in high school and middle school, but the last 25 were in elementary school. I can remember when girls were adjusting to training bras in 6th and 7th grade. Now they are wearing them in 4th, and some girls that age are well past the training stage. My 4th and 5th graders almost all had boyfriends and girlfriends. I've seen a little 4th grade boy sit at his desk in class and cry unabashadly, because his girlfriend had left him, heart totally broken.
I discovered boys when I was in the 8th grade. I still remember his name, after all these years. I was afraid to let him know I liked him, for fear of being laughed at, so it was only later, after I had moved my attention to someone else, that I found out that David had liked me, too. We were so terribly naive.

You're right about this, but I think it's also true that they mature later. I think many remain adolescents well into their 20s now.
you are absolutely right. children stop being children, in my opinion, when they stopped wearing diapers. their world is filled with 'idols' who lack common sense and any morals or values, except for their god-money.
it is sad, sad to see what this gilrs wear..i feel embarrassed to see young babies in push up bras and showing more skin that i feel comfortable showing now...
to be making out in public as it is the thing to do instead of something to be ashamed of..
my children, as i have been told, have always been more sheltered. fine, i don't care. they know about the world as it is and they are quite capable of living in it but they don't have to follow the crowd.
they are taught common sense and dignity and love and respect for all.
LOL, anvilcloud! I'm not so sure that many of today's youth are not still immature into their 30's!!
It's bothered me for a long time that toddler girl's clothes are miniature copies of teen clothes, which are way too sexy anyway.
Your children sound absolutely wonderful, the way you describe them on your blog, Chana. They've not be hurt at all by being "sheltered."
your words are kind. thank you. i'm proud of my kids too. they are no angels or perfect but they are good kids with a good heart.
i know my great-grandparents would be proud of them. that and my grandma..they are the standards i hope for.
Our girls turned into wonderful women, and we are very proud of them, too, Chana. They didn't like being raised by old fashioned standards when their friends were being allowed to do almost anything, and they went through their rebellious stages, but they turned out just fine.
I agree, they grow up fast but emotionally they are are very young and expect everything in life to fall in their laps.
I agree, Jackie, but I can't put my finger on why they're that way. Is it something the War Babies did wrong in raising their parents that showed up in the attitudes of their grandchildren?
