We watched the very first Super Bowl and many after that, but it's been several years since we have bothered. Hubby has always been the big football fan, and he's gotten so tired of all the multi-millionaire babies and thugs that call themselves professional football players that he's stopped watching pro games. We still follow our Favorite team, the University of Alabama, and others from our state. We even rooted for Auburn in the BCSC Bowl Game, but the pro games just aren't any fun for us any more.
So, I know the Super Bowl is playing tonight in Dallas. I know they've had trouble with snow and ice there. I know the Cheese Heads are playing, because I've seen them on the news. But I can't even tell you who they're playing.
I long for a day when professional football players are good role models again. Are we the only ones who are disgusted with the criminal activity and general disgrace pro football players display?

There are many pro football players actively giving back to their communities and supporting charities of various sorts. Unfortunately the criminals get all the press even though they are the minority. It really is a shame.
I'm sure you're right that it's the thug minority who make the news, but that is what you hear about. It certainly is a shame.

I watched the Superbowl, and Jess and I cheered for Green Bay, mainly because their quarterback has 3 less date-rape accusations than Pittsburgh's Roethlisberger.
This is probably highly hypocritical of us, though, as we're Philadelphia fans -- Had our team gone to the big game, they would have been led by Michael Vick, the convicted operator of a Virginia-based dog fighting ring.

I hate to paint all of these guys with the same brush I would use to paint a few of them as despicable human beings. Many of these men
are worthwhile additions to their community.
I know you're right, Cube, but ours is an emotional response to the "bad apples" who get so much publicity. They've just ruined it for us.
The bad apples in the NFL are certainly bad. They deserve all the opprobrium they get.
Me, I'm going into official football withdrawal now. I'm not a happy camper.

The concept of the game has changed so much over the years, and not for the good anymore.
While many are saying it is only a few that are the bad apples, I think you will find that anyone in the games now that has a "lime light" position or history, they are probably in some bad doing of one form or another, be it cheating on their SO, drugs, or ....
Over all, I am no longer (although I have never been overly strong on sports, but can play a mean running back...) much of a sports fan...

I think you're right about the "limelight" players being the ones who let fame go to their heads. They act like they are untouchable, such as Michael Vick did. Agents, owners, and fans fawn over them until they believe their own press! Did it all start with OJ????
Tiger Woods has proved that this mentality isn't limited to just football.
